January Jump Start

Many people find it easy to revamp their goals with the New Year. The start of each year provides a clean slate with all the celebrating and indulging behind us. Of course Foodtrainers supports this calendar-induced burst of motivation but there is more to good results than good intentions. New Foodtrainer

Last month a new Foodtrainer came on board. Caren Feingold, RD is a welcome addition to the practice. Caren completed her dietetic coursework at New York-Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia Presbyterian Center) and Teachers College, Columbia University. Caren's specialties include food allergies/sensitivities, weight reduction, adolescent/teen nutrition and eating disorders.

Prenatal Foodtraining


In the recently released pregnancy book Expecting Style, written by Lauren Sara, Lauren Slayton is the expert for the Eating Well section. The book is a great resource providing expert advice on topics ranging from style to skincare during pregnancy.
Another great resource for those with babies or expecting them is the book City Baby: The Ultimate Guide for NYC Parents from Pregnancy to Preschool, by Kelly Ashton and Pamela Weinberg). City Baby has now launched a website. Foodtrainers composed a list of prenatal tips that will appear on citybabyny.com at some point this month.

Sports Nutrition Foodtraining


Foodtrainers recently worked with the IMG agency organizing a group of top nutritionists in various NFL cities. This list will be distributed to the players IMG represents. Foodtrainers is listed on the directory as a sports nutrition resource for players in the New York area.

Bazaar- Lauren was quoted in November’s “Stay Slim: New ways to keep the pounds off” article
Cooking Light- in the December issue Lauren was interview for a story called “Nutrition for Her” about products marketed toward women. Slayton states” what these products do-implying calcium is a women’s issue- is as wrong as the scientific community making heart disease a men’s concern for so many years.”
Living Fit- Caren commented on nutrition and healthy hair for the Winter Edition.
Wall Street Journal- In the weekend edition, Foodtrainers is mentioned in an article revealing the benefits of jerky; c’mon, admit it, you’re secretly curious about this.
Self-Lauren was asked whether we should be opting for tap or bottled water, the answer is depends on where you live and how old you are. This article ran in November.
Quest- The “Essentials of Manhattan 2003-4” issue once again chose Foodtrainers for their nutrition section.
Shape- In December’s issue, Caren was quoted on a piece examining nutrition and skincare.
Buff Brides- Lauren counseled one of the brides for this television show on Discovery Health channel.
