Spring Has Sprung
We have put off doing our Foodtrainers Spring web page because it didn’t really feel like spring. Finally, it seems we are all emerging from the seemingly endless winter doldrums. Let there be warmth!!

Cheat Sheets:
There has been a lot of interest in the cheatsheets since they were featured on the CBS Early Show. The cheatsheets were called the “must-have accessory for the diet conscious.” For those of you unfamiliar with the cheatsheets they are credit card size food guides. The cheatsheets are available via subscription, $40/year for 12 monthly cards, or individually for $5.00 each. Recent cheatsheets have analyzed fruits (which have most fiber, least calories and sugar),explained how to choose a protein bar and exposed the hidden calories in various cocktails. I’m sure all of our chardonnay-sipping clients can guess which the best seller has been…hint hint.

New in Nutrition:
We really cannot take credit for this section. Our shopping-savvy clients are constantly coming into the office with food labels (and sometimes samples) for us to evaluate. Here are a few recent highlights:

Many of you out there have resorted to using a napkin to dab the top of your pizza. By ‘drying’ the pizza you feel you are dramatically reducing the fat content, practically turning it into a healthy food choice. Wouldn’t it be nice if that were even partially true? Well, maybe not with pizza, but a new product on the market called Grease Blotters removes surface oil from foods. Think of that layer of fat on homemade soups, turkey bacon or takeout food-- Grease Blotters can remove a fair amount of surface oil. You can find Grease Blotters at www.mysticmaid.com.

Another great resource is Tealuxe, www.tealuxe.com. With the known metbolism boosting effects of green and oolong teas, we get a lot of inquires about good tea companies and producers. Tealuxe carries a wide variety of teas. We were turned on to gyokuro green tea by one of our clients. It’s OK that it’s getting warm; the tea is fantastic cold too!

And finally, we bring you the best thing since Tivo…Fresh Direct, www.freshdirect.com. If you live in NYC and haven’t already tried it, do so right this minute. Here’s how it works: you go to the site and pick your grocery items and a 2-hour delivery time slot. No more “I have no time to grocery shop” excuses. You can get everything from fish to Fuji apples delivered to you. Need more nudging? You get $50 off your first order.

Foodtrainers in the News:
• As we mentioned, Foodtrainers was featured in February on the CBS Early Show www.cbsnews.com
• Self magazine quoted Lauren on craving control strategies in their May issue and Lauren and her son will be featured in one of the summer issues.
• In the fall, look for the book Expecting Style. Foodtrainers was consulted for this prenatal guide.
