Halloween: trick or treat?

Whether you are 5 or 55, chances are when you think Halloween you think candy. There isn’t anything overtly healthy in the typical trick-or-treater’s stash. However, the holiday comes once a year and if you are deliberating between candies, we thought it would be helpful to know what you’re eating! Keep in mind, even the ‘best bets’ become ‘horrific’ when eaten daily or in quantities far beyond those specified.

A pedometer is a digital device that senses body motion and counts footsteps. This count is converted into a distance by knowing the length of your average stride. When you walk or hike your pedometer will tell you how far you've gone by tracking the distance. If you go to the gym and are virtually sedentary for the rest of the day the pedometer will help you increase your general activity level. And if you aren’t an avid exerciser at all, a pedometer can be worn throughout the day to record your total daily steps. More steps translate into more calories burned. Researches recommend taking 10,000 steps per day. Continue increasing your steps each week by 10% to 20% until you reach 10,000 steps per day.
